TUESDAYS- mBody Living Arts Centre 7-9PM $15 drop in Middle Eastern Orchestra ~ There is great need for a live Middle Eastern group to accompany the many Belly Dance and Tribal Dance troupes in the Valley. This troupe will study rhythms in 5, 7 and 9 time, as well as developing intricate sequences of 2/2, 4/4 & 6/8 style rhythms. All musicians will spend time training on hand and stick drums, zills and tambourine for in depth feel. Thomas Tumbach will lead string instruments such as violin, viola, mandolin and guitar. Other instruments are welcome, as this group will develop excellent rhythm knowledge transferrable to any instrument. THURSDAYS- Location mBoby Living Arts Centre (corner of Ellis & E Eckhardt) 6-8 $15 Drum West African Drum and Dance ~ We offer both beginner and intermediate/advanced classes. The sessions open with lessons on technique, how to listen and play, and introduction to the rhythm we will play for the dancers. The second hour goes deeper into the rhythm, learning solo phrases and technique for playing Log drums, Balaphon and Dununs Stick drums. AFRICAN PERFORMANCE REHEARSAL~ During February, March & April, Nankama will be holding FREE performance sessions to integrate the dances taught over the past weeks with the rhythm arrangements.
